On Saturday we stopped at Fred Myer in Monroe, WA to pick up a few groceries. WA state has issued an order that anyone inside a business must wear masks at all times, despite the obvious benefits and the fact that it’s the law roughly 10% of shoppers did not have a mask on. This store does not monitor people walking in and making sure they’re adhering to the law like Costco does.
Now to the shocking thing we saw: an employee re-stocking fresh produce with no mask on. I couldn’t believe it. Rather than making a scene (and being accused of acting like Karen) we left the store and called the produce manager when we got home. The manager said he would have a word with the employee and see if he’ll agree to wear a mask.. because after all the employee has rights .
Wanna get sick? Drop by Fred Myer- a Kroger company.

I wish only 10% of stores had maskless customers here. For Doord ash the non chain sit down restaurants are almost all packed out with mask less people and employees.

The mouth breathing idiot was hunched over fresh produce, during a pandemic. But, HE HAS RIGHTS!

In this house we do not recognize the rights of employees.

Haven’t seen anything like that here in Stepfordland/Bellevue. Only a customer here and then, which due to age and/or appearance might have a valid health exemption (but could also be in the stubborn demographic).
Somewhat outlying SnoCo, surprised there wasn’t an armed 3%er militia of fine brave freedom-loving “men” patrolling the place mocking mask-wearers.

Reminds me of the King of the Hill episode where they have too many employees so everyone pretends to have reasons they can’t work.
He was only moisturizing the produce.

Same here, there’s an undercurrent of “MA FREEDOM” in play. A large chain grocery store should have enforceable policies for th eir employees regardless of where the store is situated. We’ll never shop in a Kroger store again. Ever.

This is a Kroger thing. My local grocery, Harris Teeter, owned by Kroger, has said that they would not enforce the (new in NC as of Friday ) facemask requirement.
Several of my friends and neighbors plan to switch to Publix, which apparently does enforce.
Shopping at Harris Teeter on Saturday, I saw one shopper without a mask, and maybe there was another. This is a big improvement from previous weeks.

Even if the employee had a valid exemption, put them on another (non cust omer-facing) task. Shouldn’t be a problem. I wonder if store leadership is on the freedumb side.

Wouldn’t stocking shelves be the “non customer facing task” for that sort of worker at a grocery store? You’re not going to have a teenager doing payroll.

Don’t worry, the fresh produce was already sprayed with stuff much worse than coronavirus.

None of the Fry’s (kroger here) are enforcing anything. Of course our mayor (Democrat) and police chief aren’t either. Anyone who has a reason doesn’t have to wear a mask here.
I’m not that bothered as I wear one. My sister is a nurse and her hospital wasn’t letting her wear one a few months ago.
The world’s gone mad.

Stocking shelves can easily end up interacting with customers, especially if they have a question. I am sure the store has a stockroom where some things need sorting.

Living not too far from Monroe inside King County , it’s clearly a completely different world up there. I don’t like going there under normal circumstances and hate going there now; it’s just a bizarre place full of people that believe the most ridiculous conspiracies , clearly can’t read, etc.

Of course it can. Micromanaging a business via internet seems pretty Karen-like though.

For a number of reasons we decided living in the burbs wasn’t for us and we moved to unincorporated Snohomish county, technically we have a Gold Bar address.
I have two university degrees and speak two languages fluently , my wife has a university degree as well. We’re both avid readers. I don’t think the broad generalization applies, I’d need t o see some meaningful data to know more.

Hey, I wasn’t supporting any reaction , just saying that there are better alternatives than leaving the person on what is effectively the salesfloor.
There’s so much dissonance about masks, especially in outlying areas where brave warrior LEOs love to flamboyantly go on social media to say they won’t follow any orders , that I’d be on to management more than the worker.

Can’t blame you for getting out. Can barely stand where I live now, and it’s just the town portion of a rural area. If the current situation was normal when we were buying a place (like >90% WFH), we’d be living way out in the country on a large piece of property. Close neighbors and tight-packed houses suck.
I wouldn’t expect you to be typical, just what I’ve noted in Monroe. For this side of the state, especially in the greater Seattle area. We know people that live there that moved due to being priced out of closer-in suburbs, and I think a lot of people like them are skewing these results, which still shows that it’s distinctly worse than average for the state, let alone the metro area: https://www.towncharts.com/Washington/Education/Monroe-CCD-WA-Education-data.html

We went from here https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4209-164th-Pl-SE-Bothell-WA-98012/82216092_zpid/
To 7.2 acres directly on the Wallace River, and we both WFH. There are plenty of blue collar folks around here, hard working salt-of-the-earth kin da folk. They mind their own business and don’t bother any one.

I certainly won’t cry if those preaching against it end up regretting it. I won’t wish it due to bad mo jo or something, but I won’t mourn if there is reason for regret.
Sadly, with the way this darkest dumbest timeline continues to trundle along, they’ll only hurt innocent bystanders.

Here you’re lucky if 10% of them are even wearing masks. People glare at me when I’m out with a mask on. And now I’m quarantined at home because one of those maskless assholes got me sick.

Whaa! Somebody not wearing a mask could bring us closer to ending the pandemic by herd immunity
